Senior Research Executive, Social Qualitative

BMRB Social Research is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of public policy research. We have a staff of over 70 quantitative and qualitative researchers and work across all areas of public policy, including crime, education and skills, employment, welfare, health, environment and transport.

Our projects include fast-turnaround studies, complex large-scale evaluations of government programmes and high profile consultations. We frequently carry out research on sensitive social and political issues and among vulnerable and socially excluded groups within the population.

The Qualitative team provide a tailored research & consultancy service of the highest quality. By combining qualitative research techniques with a strong partnership approach to client relationships, we aim to deliver added value and innovative thinking on every project.

Key Objectives

To get involved in all stages of the research process from setting up projects through to report writing and, with experience, presenting findings to funders. You will be conducting fieldwork using a variety of methods including traditional in-depth interviews & group discussions and deliberative/ consultative method, such as workshops or citizen’s jury’s. There will be opportunities to work on projects using mixed methodologies as our qualitative teams regularly collaborate with quantitative researchers on large scale studies.

Job Description

The preparation & design of recruitment questionnaires, topic guides & analysis charts.

  • Conduct fieldwork using a variety of research methods, including depth interviews, focus groups and workshops.
  • Carry out analysis of qualitative material.
  • Write qualitative reports in collaboration with colleagues, and under the guidance of the overall project manager.
  • Involvement in the interpretation, and presentation of findings, for example, production of overheads using PowerPoint.
  • Client liaison and relationship management.
  • Manage projects on a day-to-day basis, ensuring the deadlines are met.
  • To develop the skills to design qualitative research projects and write proposal.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Good degree (at least 2.1 or equivalent)
  • Confident when dealing with people
  • Able to handle sensitive issues
  • Must be able to travel around the country
  • Proven practical experience of qualitative methods
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Experience of building, developing & maintaining good working relationships with others
  • Interest in social policy issues
